Job scope

As everyone knew that I am working 6 days per week with 1 off day, working 44 hours per week and on every public holidays. Being paid $1200, NO incentives, NO double-pay on holidays, NO transport allowances, NO benefits (ONLY medical benefits, 14 days medical leave), 10 days annual leave per year (accumulating a day on every one and the half month working), NO over-time pay (if more than 44 hours work, we gained ONLY time-off), working 2 shifts (0700-1500, 1500-2300) changing shift will be on every Sunday.

I am working as an operation officer, handling the passengers flow for departure/arrival ferries ensuring smooth schedules for ferries. The task at work are TCC (terminal control centre) whereby I have to aliase with the captain and crew of the ferries for departures/arrivals, Information counter (providing informations that are inquire for), baggage counter (checking-in baggages), boarding gate (ensuring smooth flow of passengers boarding to the correct destination/ferries, printing manifest/port clearance), jetty (crowd control and ensuring smooth boarding) and lastly, baggage pier (ensuring all departure/arrivals baggages are in good condition, load/unload to the right destination/ferries).

Each time, I work in the morning shift, I will be waking up at 0430am in the wee morning getting ready for work and leave home at 0530am walking to the MRT which I will be reaching work at 0630am. The most tiring part was to be changing shift from afternoon to morning which i will be ending my shifts at 1100pm, reaching home at 1145pm, I will be having my supper before head to bed which by then was about 0100am and have to wake up at 0430am the next morning (slept for only 3 an half hours).

Definately, once I get home, I will be resting and taking a nap till evening sometimes too tired till 0800pm at night I woke up. Then I will be having my dinner, watching tv and do abit of the house chores before I finally have a piece of my time alone. When comes my off day, I sometimes wake up late and its the only time I can laze around. Usually, during my working days, I seldom do the house work because I wont have enough time and apart from that I will be resting so the only time I will be able to the chores will be on my off day.

A pervert at my workplace

For some reason I am sharing this experience with all.

There is an old uncle working in my team, he is a temporary staff which he is only needed when we are short of manpower. I used to label him as 'pervert' because he have that look and he will really stared right through you which makes you feel naked. Sometimes when we are communicating to one another, he will come close up to you at times you can feel as if his breathe on your cheeks before he able to do so, i will sprung to action and keep a distance away from him. I am not sure if I am being over-reacted till my other colleague talked about it. I have bring the matter up to my superior and they are looking into it.

The recent issue was, it happened when i was deployed together with him and with another person, my other partner was on meal break so leave me and him in the office. I was just sitting around, waiting for the last departure for my shift, there was other people around then and he was doing something with his hand phone. Suddenly, I heard something like moaning voice, I try to ignore but the sound kept playing that was the final straw for me and I get out of that place to a safer one. Guess what, that old man was viewing pornographic video on his hand phone. He is really one pathetic, sick, pervert old man....!!!

It makes me sick and disgusted. I thought I am the only one to experience that, there was also another colleague of mine facing the same problem. What was he thinking or trying to do that time. Nowadays, I keep my distance away from that old pervert uncle and making sure that the place that I work has people around and also have extra staff working with me. If this problem happens again, I wont hesitate to report this matter to the police because this is an intrusion of my privacy and harressment.

Work or Play

Its been a busy weekend for me, on Saturday morning the crowd over at my work place is swamped with crowds, some are going away for a holiday while some are going away to play golf. Each Saturday morning. the crowd will double up twice sometimes thrice and on Sunday when everyone returned back to Singapore.

I was deployed at baggage pier where I am in-charged of making sure that all the baggage that arrived and depart are in good condition as well as are safely load and unload by the porters, also ensuring that all the passengers received their baggage. There is 4 staffs deployed at jetty on weekends usually its 3 staffs on weekdays, 2 will be handling the crowd and ensuring that all departure passengers and ferries are on scheduled while I have a partner to help me around with my duties.

One of my colleagues is a senior citizen so definitely he is not up to pace so I pity him for he has to run around the jetty doing all the work while his partner is so busy playing game in the pier office, playing his PSP. We are busy working, running the pace up ensuring everything is in proper, he is enjoying himself to relaxation. When it comes to work, I am very particular, I divide my time between working and happy hour. But that person took advantage of the time and to have more staff working that period with his unreasonable attitude.

Its very frustrating and annoyed having to experience this problem. Furthermore, while his enjoying his time playing game, we will have to cover his duties and when comes the end of the month, we all have the same paid salary but the different is he is working less. So I and my colleague informed our superior about his attitude. Before this, that person was caught downloading softwares and games using the company computer and he was given a verbal  and stern warning, still he didn't change though he is given chances. While others are worry about losing their jobs, he in the other hand care less about securing his work. I wonder if he ever care about himself, not to say about his work. Its hard to find work nowadays, securing the future, even though you have dozens of certificates that doesn't promise you a brighter future or work. We should be thankful and appreciate of the things we have and owned before we loose it.

I hope he will come to his senses someday before its too late to change and mend his ways, not for other people but for himself and his future. Let this be a lesson to learn and something that we can take note of.
